“If you want to live together, you first need to learn how to live apart”. – Anonymous
Having a relationship with someone living very far distance from you isn’t that easy. A lot of people believed that long distance relationships are very complicated and aren’t going to work out. There’s so many discouragement from people around you – family members and friends. They even give you an advise to not take it too seriously as that kind of relationship will not last and will only break your heart.
In my own experience of more than four years being in a long distance relationship, it’s indeed a very tough situation. Living apart from my loved one miles and miles away is not an easy set-up. At first, there was a part of me wondering whether our relationship would survive without being together physically, even we do really love each other. And yes, we faced some problems due to the distance between us, and we almost put our relationship to an end. But we found each other worth holding onto and that no distance will separate us.
I knew from the beginning that I would be in a long distance relationship when I met him because he’s living abroad. However, I saw his effort to be with me. Despite of his busy schedule working in his own country, he always find time to fly just to visit and be with me, even in a very short time. And because of that I started to trust our relationship, eventhough we are separated physically most of the time. We always make sure that we are in constant communication, and that we respect and trust each other more than a hundred percent.
But again, it’s not that easy. Of course, the extra distance between us makes things in our relationship unachievable. There are times we feel sad and lonely, longing for each other’s presence. Good thing that our patience is as long as the distance between us. And being far away from each other makes us and our relationship stronger and it keeps our love more alive.
Being in a long distance relationship is a learning journey for us. It is a test of our love and trust for each other. We are far away from each other for now, but I believe that through with what we experienced, we will soon be together again for good.
