“Walk away from anything that gives you bad vibes. There is no need to explain or make sense of it. It’s your life, do what makes you happy.” – goodvibe.co
There is one thing I don’t like about attending a family reunion. That is the endless questions and side comments I am receiving from some of our distant relatives.
“Why are you still single?”
“Ah, you’re not getting any younger, you should get married and have children.”
“It’s not good being single your whole life.”
“You shouldn’t be a teacher because being one keeps you from getting married.”
And then there’s some comparison.
“Look at your cousin, she already have teenagers children. She’s the same age as you.”
Still, they’re not contented. They will go to my mom and will asks the same.
“How come your daughter is not yet married? Doesn’t she have a boyfriend?”
And blah, blah, blah… so on and so forth.
I can’t feel their concern while asking me that questions, but rather more of curiosity. In respect, I still explained myself to them, but the following years of reunion they will talk about me again. They’re not getting tired of minding other’s life.
Until I stopped explaining. I just smiled whenever they opened the topic of me being still single. Since then, I also stopped attending family reunion. I think it’s best for me to avoid such kind of people. I realized that I don’t owe anybody an explanation about my life. I have reasons in every decision I made in my life and it’s my choice. I hate being compared to someone else, it’s my life and I know what makes me happy. I just want to live positively and drive away those negative vibes from me.
